Köniz (Switzerland)
July 7-9, 2017
The festival “Köniz 1517 – The End of the Middle Ages” took place on the grounds of Köniz Castle in Switzerland. In conjunction with the 500-year Jubilee of the Reformation, the commune of Köniz celebrated the Middle Ages for three days.
The festival was joined by the Company of Saynt George, which portrayed the world before the 16th century. This era is often called “the Autumn of the Middle Ages,” when everyday life and commerce were mixed with religious rites and superstitions. It was a world in which, unlike today, religion permeated daily life and was taken for granted.
The aim was to depict the cultural evolution that accompanied the Reformation and to give an insight into daily life at the end of the Middle Ages.
